BirdieSense: Bringing Pro-Level Golf Training Within Reach
BirdieSense: Golf's First AI Companion

For many golfers, improving their swing has always meant choosing between expensive coaching and costly professional equipment. Traditional golf swing analysis often relies on radar systems and multi-camera setups costing tens of thousands of dollars — making advanced training difficult to access for everyday players.

Now, a new generation of AI-powered sports technology is changing that.

Developed by PathFinder Robo, BirdieSense is the company’s first AI golf coach product, powered by the D-Robotics RDK X5 Module as its core computing platform. With a single camera, BirdieSense can deliver real-time swing analysis, bringing embodied intelligence technology into real-world sports training scenarios.

Golf’s Companion with real-time AI feedback

Edge AI + Single-Camera Vision: Making Professional Swing Analysis More Accessible

The goal is simple: bringing advanced AI capabilities into a compact, practical, and consumer-ready product.

As the core computing module of BirdieSense, the RDK X5 Module provides 10 TOPS of AI computing power and an 8-core ARM Cortex-A55 processor, enabling real-time processing of key functions including real-time swing motion capture, 3D pose analysis, motion deviation comparison and voice-based interactive feedback.

Traditionally, professional swing analysis has relied on radar-based systems or multi-camera arrays. While these solutions deliver accurate insights, their high cost and complicated setup have limited accessibility for many golfers.

BirdieSense takes a different approach by leveraging single-camera vision and edge AI computing. It integrates the complete workflow of “perception →analysis → feedback” into a lightweight device, without requiring an external computer or cloud server.

Personalized Golf Performance Analytics

With local data processing, BirdieSense delivers fast responses while keeping user data on-device.

Powered by the RDK X5 Module, PathFinder Robo’s proprietary 3D motion analysis models run efficiently at the edge, enabling accurate posture recognition, swing comparison, and personalized improvement recommendations through computer vision.

The RDK X5 Module also features dual MIPI CSI camera interfaces and supports stereo depth estimation capabilities, providing flexibility for future multi-camera expansion and more advanced perception solutions.

Turning AI capabilities into a real-world product requires more than powerful hardware. Throughout the development journey, D-Robotics works closely with PathFinder Robo to optimize hardware and software integration, deploy AI models at the edge, and fine-tune performance for real-world scenarios. This helps accelerate product iteration and ensures stable performance across real-world environments such as driving ranges, homes, and training facilities.

Expanding AI Sports Applications

By combining edge AI computing with practical user needs, PathFinder Robo and D-Robotics are exploring new possibilities for intelligent sports training.

For golfers, BirdieSense is designed around everyday training scenarios from individual practice and coach-assisted instruction to institutional deployments at scale. A typical experience: Place BirdieSense in front of the practice mat. Take a swing. Within seconds, users receive voice feedback and detailed swing comparisons through the companion app. No wearable sensors. No complicated setup. No dependence on cloud computing. The core analysis happens directly on the device.

For PathFinder Robo, golf is only the beginning. Built on the foundation of single-camera motion capture, edge AI inference, and real-time voice interaction, the technology can be adapted to broader sports and wellness applications, including tennis, fitness training, and rehabilitation.
