This September, Toronto is becoming a meeting point for the people building what’s next in robotics. From September 22–24, 2026, developers, researchers, engineers, and open-source contributors across the ROS ecosystem will gather at the Sheraton Centre Downtown Toronto for ROSCon Global 2026.
D-Robotics is excited to be part of it. Our team is heading to Toronto to meet the community, share what we've been building with RDK, and explore new possibilities in robotics and edge AI together.
For us, ROS 2 is not an add-on — it is a core part of the RDK robotics development experience. Across the RDK platform, we support multiple ROS 2 distributions, while TogetheROS.Bot builds on ROS 2 with hardware-accelerated capabilities tailored for robotics.
Beyond BPU-accelerated AI inference, TogetheROS.Bot integrates and optimizes key capabilities across the robotics pipeline, including image processing, video encoding and decoding, streaming, sensor access, and efficient data communication. These capabilities are packaged into ROS 2-friendly components, nodes, and interfaces, allowing developers to stay within the familiar ROS 2 development framework while taking advantage of RDK's heterogeneous computing and hardware acceleration capabilities.
The goal is simple: developers can keep building with the ROS 2 tools and workflows they already know, while bringing AI perception, multimedia processing, sensors, and real-time robotic applications efficiently onto RDK-powered robots.

At the booth, you can check out the LooperRobotics Insight 3, Insight 7, and Insight 9—a series of autonomous spatial AI cameras with D-Robotics RDK X5 modules built in. By integrating RDK X5 at the edge, the LooperRobotics Insight series brings AI computing closer to the physical environment, enabling intelligent spatial perception and on-device processing for real-world applications.
Meet the RDK Challenge Champion
The D-Robotics community is built by developers who turn ideas into working projects. That’s why we’re especially excited to have the winner of the RDK Challenge joining us at ROSCon Global 2026.
Who he is: Isaac (aka RustedFriend) is a maker who designs, builds, and maintains interactive exhibits at a planetarium/science center, with hands-on experience in nearly every fabrication craft — from woodworking, machining, and welding to 3D printing, casting, and sewing — and who recently dove into machine learning and Isaac Sim with the dream of building a robot docent.
His project: BETL-001 (nicknamed "Beetle") is a scratch-built lidar-scanning robot on the D-Robotics RDK X5 that maps building interiors in 3D using a clever "poor-man's spherical scanner" — a 2D RPLIDAR A1 canted 90° on a rotating stage — while running Ultralytics YOLOv8n object detection on the BPU (only 3% inference degradation under concurrent load), with Steam Deck teleoperation and basic LLM command execution.
